Abstract (EN)

OPTIMIZATION OF SENSOR SITING (M.Sc. Thesis) Derya OKTAY GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY September 2004 ABSTRACT In recent years, there is an increasing trend towards the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Decision Support Systems. While the number of application eras is increasing, the need of custom solutions to specific problems is also growing. Locating sensors on terrain having maximum coverage problem is another specific problem requiring custom solution. Although, there exists similar studies, neither they provide open solution paths to academic research world, nor they focus on finding out the sensor locations and sensor parameters. "Optimization of Sensor Siting in Geographic Information Systems" thesis work entitles finding out optimum sensor locations and parameters by means of Genetic Algorithms which gives optimum sensor coverage.
