Oxidation of dyes with MgO2 in synthetic textile wastewaters

Abstract (EN)

The treatment of wastewater containing textile dyes through advanced oxidation processes using environmentally friendly methods is of great importance for ecological and environmental health. Magnesium peroxide (MgO2) stands out as an eco-friendly oxidant with strong oxidation potential. Investigating the oxidation potential of MgO2 for textile dyes in wastewater is thought to advance the proliferation of eco-friendly treatment methods. The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the Fe2+/MgO2 process in the oxidation of RB5 textile dye. The optimum pH and Fe2+/MgO2 ratio for the Fe2+/MgO2 process were determined to be 2,50 and 0,40, respectively. Under these conditions, for a 200 mg/L RB5 solution, complete color removal was achieved with 0,04 g of MgO2 within 60 minutes using the Fe2+/MgO2 process. Studies using MgO2 have shown that it has high potential in the removal of RB5. These findings are expected to provide significant benefits in the treatment of dye-containing wastewater, offering an effective and environmentally friendly approach.
