Abstract (EN)

In this study, the utilization of Kayseri-Menteş iron ore as an oxygen carrier in the Chemical Looping Combustion (CLC) process was investigated through out the experiments done in a laboratory scale fluidized bed reactor. In the process, CO and H2 gas mixtures at syngas composition were used as fuel at volumetric flowrates equal to 6 times the minimum fluidization velocity, and two different operation temperatures 800 and 950 oC, were applied. It was determined that at 800 oC, the ore sustained its activity for 50 process cycles (approx. 8 hours), while providing 70% gas yield and 70% CO2 yield. In experiments carried out at 950 oC it was observed that the ore was stable, but a little decline in activity occured due to sintering. In the light of the findings of this study, it was concluded that Kayseri-Menteş iron ore has a high potential for being used as oxygen carrier in the CLC process.
