Abstract (EN)

The understanding of Gaziantep's status during the Ottoman period, with its multi-layered structure that bears traces of many states, is made possible through the examination of various records from the researched era. One of the most important documents that have survived to this day, thanks to the Ottoman archival practices, is the Kadi records. This study emerges from the need to evaluate the urban structure, architectural features, and housing typology of that era through the Kadi records, which are among the most significant documents of their time. The aim is to analyze property sale documents found within these valuable Ottoman records. For this purpose, Gaziantep's Kadi records have been selected as the sample. The research encompasses transcriptions of Gaziantep Kadi records entries spanning from 1696 to 1831. It includes 24 register entries that delve into topics such as property owners, property details, neighborhoods, roads, neighbor relations, floor distributions, architectural formations, components of dwellings, and sale prices. Based on all these data, housing schematics have been created. In the evaluation section of the study, an attempt has been made to create a typology of Gaziantep housing based on spatial components, while the discussion section explores the reflections of cultural interactions in the formation of these residences. This study, which sheds light on the era in which the examined documents were recorded and provides a general overview of the period, is valuable in forming ideas about various aspects of the city and its historical context.
