Abstract (EN)

Endometriosis affects %5-15 of the women of reproductive age all over the world. It?s an estrogen dependent progressive disease and clinically characterized by chronic pelvic pain, dismenorrhea, dyspareunia and also infertility. This bening gynecologic disease causes a significant financial burden for patient and the health system. There is no defined non-invasive clinical test for the definitive diagnosis of endometriosis and laparoscopic or open surgery is stil the gold standard today. In this study, we investigated the serum levels of CA 125, CA 19-9, total sialic acid and free sialic acid in 41 patients with endometriosis and 30 normal female and the availability of these tumor markers in the diagnosis of this disease was discussed. In conclusion, it?s obtained that CA 125 and total sialic acid levels were increased especially in the patients with advanced stage endometriosis and a strong positive correlation between them was determined in endometriosis patients. We recommend the use of serum total sialik acid levels for the new diagnostic marker in the diagnosis of endometriosis.
