Abstract (EN)

A total of 100 patients with cervicitis and urethritis who were admitted to Gaziantep University Medical Faculty, Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, and Urology Clinic were included in this study, which was performed to investigate the sexually transmitted agents in patients with cervicitis and urethritis by multiplex PCR method. C.trachomatis, N.gonorrhoeae, M.genitalium and HSV-2 agents were detected. As a result of the study, agents were detected in 7 (36.8%) of male patients and 3 (3.7%) of female patients. Again, as a result of the analysis of data obtained from the study it has seen that the agents mostly detected in patients between the ages of 15-24 and 25-34 years. When the distribution of the agents according to marital status is examined, agents were detected in 7 of the 92 patients who were married and in 5 of 8 patients who were single. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained from our study, none of the patients with 1 child were found to be have an agent, and only one (5%) of 20 patients with 2 children and 3 (5.5%) of 55 patients with 3 or more children were found to be have an agent. When the distribution of the factors according to the smoking status were examined, it was seen that agents were detected in 3 of 20 cigarette smoking patients and in 7 of 80 non-smoking patients. According to the symptoms, agents were detected in only 2 of 52 patients with pruritus, in 8 of 48 patients without pruritus, in 3 of the patients with discharge, in 6 of 59 patients with dysuria. When the distribution of the factors according to the presence of abortion and abdominal pain were investigated, agents were detected in none of the 24 patients who had abortus, C.trachomatis and HSV-2 were detected in 2 of 57 patients without abortus. While agent was detected in 2 of the 36 patients without abdominal pain, only in one of 45 patients with abdominal pain. Since conventional methods used in the diagnosis of STIs are difficult and time consuming, multiplex PCR is of great importance in diagnosis. The lack of empirical treatment for patients without laboratory diagnosis increases unnecessary drug use and cost burden. Therefore, because of the rapid diagnosis is important, it is advantageous to use multiplex PCR method without cost effectiveness.
