The effect of listening texts on the listening skill of the secondary school, 7th grade students

The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of listening texts on the listening skills of the middle school, 7th grade students. In order to be used in this study, listening texts named "Eskici" and "Karagöz Baba ile Hacivat Usta" in the 7th grade textbooks were selected. The research was applied to 482 students studying at 7th grade of seven secondary schools affiliated to Bursa Provincial Directorate of National Education. As data collection, listening comprehension questions about the texts "Eskici" and "Karagöz Baba ile Hacivat Usta" were prepared and applied in the research. The control-experiment groups' level of listening comprehension was determined by the questions related to the text "Eskici". The text "Karagöz Baba ile Hacivat Usta" was read by the teacher to the control group and the same text was listened to by the experimental group as a recorded text. The students' answers were evaluated by the researcher according to the prepared answer key and analysed at SPSS 21.00. In the research, a post-test experimental model was applied. As a result of analysis, it was determined that there was no significant difference between the control group to whom the listening text was read by the teacher and the experimental groups who listened to the recorded listening text. However, it was determined that the female students' listening comprehension skills were significantly higher than the male students' in the gender-oriented analysis of the student groups participating in the study.
