Abstract (EN)
Damascus, which is one the ancients cities, became a center that preserved the reliable city characteristic befor and after Islam. The city, joined the Islamic lands in the tıme of Hz. Omar. The city, which gained an important position during the Muaviye period, became the capital of the Umayyads. Damascus has always been a city called "the paradise of the earth". Travelers who are curious about Damascus, who has this feature, traveled around the city and described the city's their socio-culturel structure in their travel boks. Especially the information given by the authors who come from Anatolia and Europe and convey the characteristics of thiss place is interesting. For this reason, it is important to recognize Damascus with the eyes of the travelers. In this work, we will try to describe the capital city of Umayyad state and the city of Damascus, which is one of the important centers of history, science, culture and trade of the Islamic world. Our aim is to have information about the history, culture, people and geography of Damascus. In the first part of our thesis, which consists of two chapters, we will look at the historical structure before and after Islam, and the changes that Damascus has undergone in the course of time. In the second part, we will try to explain Damascus in Travelogues which is the main theme in our thesis.
