The relationship between preoperative serum aspirin levels in patients undergoing caesarean section and preoperative pain threshold and postoperative analgesic consumption

Asprosin is an adipokine secreted from white adipose tissue and is thought to play a role in pain modulation as well as metabolic processes. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between preoperative serum asprosin levels and preoperative pain threshold and postoperative analgesic consumption in pregnant women undergoing caesarean section. Pregnant women scheduled for caesarean section were included in the study. A total of 74 pregnant women, 37 in the painful pregnant group and 37 in the pain-free pregnant group, were analysed. Serum asprosine levels were measured and pain threshold was evaluated in the preoperative period. In the postoperative period, the amount of analgesic drugs used was recorded. The data were evaluated by statistical analyses. The mean age (p=0.012), BMI (p=0.026) and gestational week (p=0.0013) were significantly higher in the pain-free group compared to the painful group. In terms of ASA score, a higher risk was found in the painful group (p=0.006). Asprosin levels were significantly higher in the painful group (p=0.019). No statistically significant difference was found between the groups in terms of VAS scores and pain threshold (p>0.05). A positive correlation was found between asprosine level and postoperative analgesic consumption in all study groups (r=0.2482, p=0.033), but this relationship was not statistically significant within groups (p>0.05). The study findings suggest that asprosine may be associated with preoperative pain threshold and postoperative analgesic consumption in pregnant women undergoing caesarean section. This suggests that asprosine may be used as a potential biomarker in postoperative pain management.
