Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT EVALUATION OF PERIOPERATIVE ANXIETY AND PATIENT SATISFACTION IN PREGNANT PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN SUBJECT TO C-ESAREA Pregnancy affects many organ systems. Many of these physiological changes are adaptive and beneficial for the mother to tolerate the stress of pregnancy, labor, and birth. Nowadays, as the caesarean section operation has become safer, there has been a significant increase in the caesarean section rate. In cesarean anesthesia, general and regional anesthesia techniques are used. Preoperative anxiety has been suggested to be associated with many side effects: increased postoperative pain and postoperative analgesic requirements; increased heart rate, blood pressure, and epinephrine levels; postoperative nausea and vomiting, increased recovery times and hospital stays. In our study; It was aimed to evaluate perioperative anxiety and patient satisfaction with the Perioperative Anxiety Scale-7 (PAS-7) in pregnant women who underwent cesarean section. The PAS-7 survey, consisting of 7 questions, was applied to 400 pregnant women who applied for cesarean section at Fırat University Faculty of Medicine, Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic between September 2022 and September 2023, to evaluate perioperative anxiety and patient satisfaction. Pregnant women who accepted the application and were included in the study were informed about the survey and their verbal and written consent was obtained. Pregnant women between the 20th and 40th weeks of pregnancy were included in the survey. Pregnant women with ASA classification IV-V, pregnant women who were mentally unable to answer the questions, and pregnant women who did not want to answer the survey were excluded from the study. In our study with PAS-7, we found that the age of the pregnant women, the number of cesarean sections, the presence of additional diseases, the anesthesia method and the urgency of the surgery were risk factors for preoperative anxiety and were statistically significant (p<0.05). In addition, we found that preoperative anxiety increased HR and MAP intraoperatively and in the recovery room, caused nausea and vomiting during recovery and the first 24 hours postoperatively, caused an increase in VAS score, and caused an increase in ICU admissions, which was statistically significant (p<0.05). The PAS-7 scale is an ideal psychometric tool for perioperative anxiety because it is easy to use, contains fewer items, requires less time, and also evaluates somatic anxiety. It was concluded that more studies are needed to use the PAS-7 scale in the evaluation of perioperative anxiety.
