Determination of the effect of acupressure applied after c-section on gastrointestinal motility

The Study was conducted in a prospective, randomized controlled, experimental design in order to determine the effect of acupressure applied after cesarean section on gastrointestinal motility. The data of the research were collected from 60 women (30 of which were in the intervention group and 30 in the control group) who underwent elective cesarean section in the gynecology and obstetrics service of a hospital between May 2019 and November 2019 in Düzce University Health Application and Research Center. Personal information form created by the researchers in data collection and intestinal motility follow-up form was used. In addition to application of standard care for the women in the intervention group at the hospital, at the 4th, 8th and 12th hours postoperatively, three times for 15-20 minutes to points LI4, LI11 and ST36 while acupressure was applied, only standard care in hospital was given to the control group. In both groups, postoperatively, bowel sounds, gas and stool output time were recorded in the 4th, 8th and 12th hours. In order to avoid bias, Bowel sounds was counted by the researcher and an independent observer. Bowel sound scores in the analysis in which the harmony between the researcher and the observer was evaluated, ICC values were between 0.90 and 0.98. and a statistically significant, very good level of aggrement has been detected between the observer and researcher. (p<0.001). As a result of the research, intestines in the intervention group at the 4th, 8th and 12th hours that the mean of the number of voices is higher than the control group and the difference between the groups statistically significant, the first gas release time was shorter in the intervention group (12.90±6.07 hours vs. 17.31±7.95 hours) and the difference between the groups wasstatistically significant (p<0.05), the first stool output time was shorter in the experimental group (26.27±7.99 hours vs. 27.34±8.59 hours), but the statistical difference between groups was not found to be significant (p>0.05). In conclusion, acupressure can be used in the gastrointestinal tract after cesarean section and increasing the comfort of women by regulating motility and shortening the gas-stool output time, it is used in nursing care in order to accelerate recovery, nurses in our country to make the necessary legal arrangements to be able to carry out this application independently, it has been suggested that training and certification programs for nurses should be disseminated.
