Abstract (EN)

Within the scope of this thesis, MgO nanoparticles were produced by the green synthesis method using extracts of Sideritis perfoliata and Thymbra spicata var. spicata plants collected from Kadirli district of Osmaniye province, and the characterization of these nanoparticles was made by XRD and SEM analyses. However, the antibacterial activities of the obtained nanoparticles were investigated on different strains (Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 49452, Yersinia enterocolitica ATCC 27729, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus NCTC10788, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9070, Acinetobacter baumannii ATCC BA1609). XRD results reveal the formation of the polycrystalline cubic structure of the produced MgO nanoparticles. No other impurity phase was found in the XRD pattern. However, SEM images of MgO nanoparticles green synthesized with both S. perfolia and T. spicata var. spicata extracts were found to exhibit an almost spherical or crescent-like shape with smooth surfaces. In addition, it was determined that MgO nanoparticles produced by the green synthesis method using both plant extracts had an effect on the tested strains by creating different inhibition zones
