Research on determination of healing gardens therapeutic benefits and design principles

Being in contact with nature plays an important role in the healing of diseases while preventing many mental problems such as stress/ depression causing diseases and protecting them from diseases. However, with the increase of industrialization and concreteization, it is getting harder to communicate with nature in cities every day. In the researches, it has been determined that this situation greatly decreases the work force by increasing the urban pressure, physical / mental diseases on people. Due to the increase in health problems in recent years, serious negotiations have been held in the world public opinion and reforms have been formed as a result. Reform studies in all areas have also come to the fore in the landscape area. As a result; The concept of 'healing garden', which is located in urban green areas that form the organic connection of big cities with nature, has been exposed. The healing garden is a garden or landscape designed to achieve positive health outcomes, tailored to a particular population, location and purpose. Unfortunately, the use of healing gardens, which have an important history in both Ottoman and world history, is not common today. The aim of this study is to determine the intended use of healing gardens, to determine in which situations people can choose healing gardens, to inform people about the healing gardens and to determine the landscape design principles of healing gardens accordingly. The material of the research; Zeytinburnu Medical and Aromatic Plants Garden and Kütahya Hekim Sinan Medical and Aromatic Plants Garden. The method of the study; data collection consists of analysis, synthesis and evaluations. The data were obtained through literature reviews, on-site examinations and questionnaires based on face-to-face interviews. Questionnaire analyzes were made with the SPSS16 statistical program and the analysis results obtained were synthesized with the literature data and evaluations were made. As a result of the research; It was concluded that the definition of the concept of healing garden should be made fully, the awareness-raising should be increased, and the number of healing gardens should be increased, especially in the cities, and the conscious use of treatments should be expanded.
