Related rights in the works of cinema

Emerging in the last part of 19th century, much later than the other art forms, cinema is still one of the most effective means of mass communication in spite of all the technological advancements. Due to emerging much later than the conventional works of art, obtaining a legal status and legal protection later than most and in light of technological advancements, cinema earned itself a place in Intellectual Property Law. In this study, history of works of art and history of cinema are explored, the definition of work of cinema in Turkish Law and prerequisites of protection for works of art in Turkish Law and qualification of cinema works of controversial nature are discussed. And subjects such as; ownership of rights in the works of cinema, rights of the author in the works of cinema, ownership of related rights, related rights as a notion and the legal status of related rights, related rights owners, related rights in the works of cinema and rights of the film producer, legal actions and legal sanctions that can be executed in case of breach of such rights,are discussed in light of legislation and doctrinal opinions.
