Abstract (EN)

In this study, the effects of seismic isolator method, which has attracted a lot of attention among the methods of earthquake resistant building design, on the joints of steel buildings were examined. In the classical earthquake resistant building design method, the effects of earthquake ground motion on the structures are met by the strength of the relevant material. The stresses that occur in the building elements, the relative floor displacements, the rotations formed around the vertical axis, the deflections in the building elements are compared with the safety limits. In this approach, all vibrations created by the ground motion are transferred to the superstructure by the building foundation. In the seismic isolation approach, special supports are placed between the ground and the structure that prevent or reduce the effects of ground motion to the structure. These bearings are manufactured to have high horizontal displacement capability and sufficient vertical rigidity. In this way, the possibility of horizontal translation of the building freely is enabled and the building period is extended. As a result of the lengthening of the building period, the spectral accelerations in the structure decrease. Within the scope of this study, the effects in the connection areas for the seismic foundation isolation and fixed support cases of two structures with the same features were examined separately.
