Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted in 30 individuals (33.3% male, 66.7% female) who received SG approval at Pamukkale University General Surgery Department to evaluate the relationship between dietary acid load levels, blood lipid profile and blood glycemic control parameters before and after sleeve gastrectomy (SG). A questionnaire was applied to determine the general characteristics, nutritional habits and food consumption frequency of individuals, three-factor eating behavior scale and depression scale at the 3rd month before and after SG. The biochemical findings, general health status, body composition analyzes and anthropometric measurements of the individuals were recorded by the researcher. Dietary acid load levels were calculated using the potential renal acid load (PRAL) formula. When the dietary acid load levels of the individuals (M: 61.51±21.43/ 12.30±7.99, F: 40.82±14.99/8.32±5.24) were examined, the dietary acid load before SG was increased after SG. It was found to be significantly higher than the previous period (p<0.001). A positive relationship was found between fasting blood sugar, HOMA, Hb1Ac, insulin, TG, LDL, cholesterol levels and Dietary Acid Load (PRAL) in the pre- and post-SG periods, and a negative relationship with HDL levels (p<0.001). A significant positive correlation was found between individuals' dietary acid load levels and energy and macronutrients, cholesterol intake, dietary glycemic index and some anthropometric measurements (weight, BMI, waist circumference, body fat ratio) (p<0.001). The results of the study show that there may be a relationship between the acid load of the diet and the blood lipid profile and glycemic control parameters in the pre- and post-SG period. For this reason, the nutritional habits of individuals, individual factors that increase dietary acid load levels, eating behavior and emotional state should be examined in detail before and after SG, and the diet should be planned according to the individual after sleeve gastrectomy. More comprehensive and longer studies on bariatric surgery and dietary acid load are needed. Keywords: Sleeve gastrectomy, dietary acid load, PRAL
