An examination of classroom teachers' attitudes toward gender roles: The case of Tunceli province

This study was conducted to determine the attitudes of primary school teachers working in the province of Tunceli toward gender roles. The research sample consisted of 138 teachers (34 male, 104 female) selected from a population of 256 primary school teachers in Tunceli using a stratified sampling method. The "Gender Roles Attitude Scale," developed by Zeyneloğlu (2008), was used as the data collection instrument. Data were collected via Google Forms using an online data collection form. The total Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient of the scale was found to be 0.92. The findings indicate that the scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool at the desired level for determining the attitudes of primary school teachers in Tunceli toward gender roles. IBM SPSS Statistics 24 was used for quantitative data analysis. In interpreting the scale items, the frequencies (f) of responses were examined, and Independent Samples t-test, One-Way ANOVA, and Kruskal–Wallis tests were applied to determine arithmetic means. An analysis of the responses provided by primary school teachers working in Tunceli revealed that the variables of place of birth, years of service, and gender had a significant effect on attitudes toward gender roles, and that teachers generally exhibited an egalitarian attitude.
