Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to determine the classroom teachers? possession level of characteristics required by the constructivist approach on planning, implementation and evaluation dimensions of teaching and learning. In this context, the research aimed to look at whether or not there was any significant difference in terms of classroom teachers? possession level of characteristics required by the constructivist approach with respect to variables such as gender, experience, graduated school type, class size and class level. The research was conducted by survey model adopted. Quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques were used during the data collection phase. A questionnaire was used in the collection of quantitative data and an observation method was used in the collection of qualitative data. The research sample of the study consists of 390 teachers working at primary schools in the central city of Afyonkarahisar. Qualitative data was collected through observing 50 teachers (out of 390) working at six different primary schools. Two different data collection tools were used for the research. The first data collection tool was a questionnaire developed by the researcher, ?Questionnaire for Determining Teacher Characteristics Required by the Constructivist Approach?. Other data collection tool was an ?Observation Form? developed by the researcher in order to reveal teachers? current situation on possessing characteristics required by the constructivist approach. The Questionnaire for Determining Teacher Characteristics Required by the Constructivist Approach consisted of 59 items in total. Cronbach?s Alpha value of the questionnaire was found to be 0.96. The Observation Form which was based on the questionnaire and prepared in accordance with expert opinions and recommendations consisted of 20 items. In conclusion, according to the analyzed data it can be claimed that the sample of classroom teachers for this study appeared to possess the characteristics required by the constructivist approach. However, the results of the observation revealed that the level of teacher characteristics required by the constructivist approach can said not to be at a sufficient level. It was also found that there was no significant difference in terms of classroom teachers? possession level of characteristics required by the constructivist approach with respect to variables such as gender, seniority, graduated school type, class size and class level. Keywords: Classroom Teachers, Constructivism, Teacher Characteristics.
