Legal interpretation of transboundary waters

This study aims to provide legal interpretations of transboundary waters. In this context, definitions related to transboundary waters are first provided. Subsequently, the reasons causing disputes over water resources are explained. The importance of ensuring the security of transboundary waters is emphasized, and countries' efforts in this direction are exemplified. Regarding water sharing, accepted and used doctrines are stated, and the importance and necessity of countries' cooperation in transboundary waters are emphasized. Afterwards, examples of transboundary waters within Turkey are presented, evaluations of these waters within the scope of customary law are indicated, the institutional regulation of the mentioned waters is conveyed, and the connection between international organizations and transboundary waters is demonstrated. Then, a legal assessment of transboundary waters is made. As a result of the study, it is stated that transboundary waters are critically important for the continuity of the world and humanity, and this value continues to increase constantly. In this respect, it is determined that transboundary waters are becoming increasingly important among countries. It is established that resolving disputes between countries regarding transboundary waters is critically important for building a peaceful and sustainable future.
