Abstract (EN)

Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) is used as a renal replacement therapy for end stage renal failure patients more frequently at last years. Infectious complications ( tunnel and exit site infection and peritonitis) can be seen at significant number of the patients. Unfortunately too many patients leaves CAPD program because of peritonitis.118 end stage renal failure patients who were end stage renal failure with CAPD catheter insertion were made at the Gazi University Faculty of Medicine Hospital between ocak 1997-aralık2010 were enrolled into this study. All of the patients characteristics such as age, sex, accompanied disease, the etiology of the chronic renal failure, if there was any history of hemodialysis and transplantation, frequency of infectious complication was recorded. The patients who cell number in peritoneal fluid at the diagnosis of peritonitis and culture results. All of the patient?s blood counts and some biochemical parameters were noted basally. Differences between patients who had peritonitis attack or not were analyzed and recorded.Infectious complication developed at the 70 patients out of 118 patients. The peritonitis incidence was found 0,57 attack per year or one attack per twenty one month. The most frequent microorganism at the cultures was coagulase negative staphylococcus. In this study, duration of peritoneal dialysis, hyponatremia and hypoparathyroidism were determined to increase the risk of peritonitis.Overall survival of patients are % 91,5 and % 82 for 3 and 5 years, respectively.Amiloidosis and CaxP > 55 were determined to increase the risk of mortality in the present study. Such risk factors should be kept in mind during follow-up of patients under peritoneal dialysis. Keywords: CAPD, peritonitis, mortality
