vMODELLING OF TUNNEL USING FEM AND A CASE STUDY(M.Sc. Thesis)Hüseyin KÖKÇÜOĞLUGAZİUNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYSeptember 2006ABSTRACTFinite elements method is a method that is widely used for stress-strainanalysis. In this study, by explaining the tunnelling rock massclassifications and tunnel design criteria, numerical modelling has beenimplemented with finite element method. Deliballı Dam and HPPslardiversion tunnel, which is one of the Susurluk-Orhaneli Creek PowerProjects at feasibility analysis stage, has been chosen as theapplication area. Q and RMR geomechanical rock mass classificationsof the tunnel alignment have been done based on the drilling data andsurface observations by Eİ Numerical modelling of the tunnel hasE.been implemented by utilizing the Phase 2D software, which operatesas per finite elements method. For the analysis, Mohr-Coulomb yieldcriterion have been applied and the resulting stress and strain havebeen calculated. Updating of the laboratory research and 3-D modellingof the tunnel during the execution design and prior to constructionshall be useful.Science Code : 911.1.050Key Words : Tunnel, modelling, finite element methodPage Number : 83Adviser : Prof.Dr. Nail ÜNSAL
