Using cartoons in social studies course books

In this research, it was aimed to analyze the status of the use of cartoons in the 5th, 6th and 7th grade social studies textbooks of the 2020-2021 MEB-approved private publishing house and the 2021-2022 MEB publishing house. Document analysis, a qualitative research method, was used in the research. In the research, 2020-2021 MEB-approved private publishing house 5th Grade, 6th Grade, 7th Grade Social Studies Textbooks and 2021-2022 MEB publishing house 5th Grade, 6th Grade, 7th Grade Social Studies Textbooks were examined. In the analysis of these data obtained, content analysis method was applied. In the findings obtained, it was seen that the number of cartoons in the Social Studies textbooks of the MEB publishing house in the 2021-2022 academic year was higher than the number of cartoons in the Social Studies textbooks of the MEB-approved private publishing house in the 2020-2021 academic year. The importance of the social studies course and the need to use cartoons for the skills to be taught were mentioned. Suggestions were made regarding the findings obtained from the research.
