Abstract (EN)

Education has been an important tool in shaping societies throughout history. Social studies teaching has an important role among the efforts to renew and develop the education systems of the countries. In this study, whilw the outlines of the history of science subjects in social studies teaching in general have been emphosized, the scope and tendencies of the history of science subjects in social in social studies textbooks have been exammed. The history of science can be seen as the process of the birth and development of science. Elements such as the characteristics of scientists, scientific achievements, difficulties encountered on the way to success, various sources of inspiration, examples of creative thinking, struggles against various dogmas in the current period, new periods caused by scientific discoveries and successes are important parts of the history of science. There is a need for individuals who make sense of the nature of science so that countries can make their names known to the world with positive scientific developments. Individuals who develop scientific literacy skills are needed for a proper discovery of the nature of science. Individuals who can understand the importance of scientific knowledge at the process of scientific studies at the present day will develop the country and the society. Our children, who are the guarantee of our future, need to have the necessary equipment in the history of science in order to make sense of the process of scientific knowledge in today's world. If we want to educate individuals with these skills, we need to give enough place in our lessons. Keywords: Social Studies, History of Science, Teaching
