Social studies teacher candidates' perceptions towards outof-school history teaching

Social Studies is an interdisciplinary primary school course that includes the subjects of social science disciplines. History, which is among the social science disciplines, is a discipline that tries to make sense of past events by basing them on documents and evidence. History teaching is considered an important tool in the formation of national consciousness, patriotism and citizenship in students. Out-of-school history teaching is the transfer of history subjects within the scope of the course to students outside the school boundaries. It helps to break the weight and mediocrity of history subjects and make them more educational and entertaining. The aim of this prepared thesis is to determine the perceptions of social studies teacher candidates towards out-of-school history teaching by integrating the subjects of Social Studies course and out-of-school history teaching and to seek answers to the questions stated in the case of a problem. This study, which was prepared with the aim of integrating the subjects of social studies course and out-of-school history teaching and realizing their contributions to humanity, is extremely important due to its remarkable titles and connections. The method of the research is a mixed research method, and the general screening model was used in the quantitative dimension and document analysis was used in the qualitative dimension. The sample group of this study consists of 119 teacher candidates studying at the Department of Social Studies Education at İnönü University in the 2023-2024 academic year. As data collection tools, the ''Out-of-School History Teaching Perception Scale'' was used for quantitative data, and the teaching programs published by the Ministry of National Education were examined using the document analysis method for qualitative data. While quantitative data were analyzed using the data analysis program, qualitative data were evaluated using the descriptive analysis method. The findings obtained after the analysis of the data were discussed in the conclusion section and suggestions for social studies teacher candidates were presented.Key Words: Social studies, out-of-school history, museum education, oral history, historical environment
