Social, economik and ecological based zooning: Potantials and limitations

For urban planning, every sociological, economic and ecological factor is very important, and the urban space should reflect this. In the urban planning, these three factors, nevertheless, are not taken together. Planning which is the activity of determining future/decision making for future can not fulfill these tasks within the existent limits. Because there is no regioning in our country. The existing regioning projects heavily depend on economic criteria and this grows more and more apparent during the accommodation process of Republic of Turkey with European Union. Yet, regioning is not a consequence of a activity carried out for a short-term solutions; it is an activity of defining and determining the limits whose essential component consists in revealing the potentials, problems and inner relations.To regioning, much more importance should be given especially for Turkey which is a developing country. Consequently, for Turkey, an inclusive and detailed regioning studies are necessary. In sum, there is no determining/guiding plan in Turkey. Thus, the limits and the directions of the plans are not exactly known. For the development plans to achieve their targets, or even for determining their targets, what is required is the regions whose boundaries are exactly determined and thus whose potentials and problems are defined.The lack of regional boundaries whose potentials and problems are exactly determined causes the important problems in data gathering, decision-making data and putting these decisions in practice. For the ecological balance, the important part of these problems can hardly be compensated.
