Investigation of social appearance anxiety levels of university students receiving sports and art education according to some variables

In this study constructed, it was aimed to investigate the social appearance anxiety levels of university students receiving sports and arts education according to some variables and 302 university students who are 132 females and 170 males participated in the study. The students who participated in the study were selected from the students of physical and sports schools and art students. "Social Appearance Anxiety Scale" was used to determine the social appearance anxiety of the students who participated in the study. In the statistical analysis process of data obtained, frequency analysis, Mann Whitney U Test and One Way Anova analysis were used in SPSS 22.0 data analysis program. At the end of the study, it was determined that the social appearance anxiety of university students was below the middle level. When the demographic variables were taken into consideration, it was determined that the social appearance anxiety of the students participated in the research showed statistically significant differences according to the variables of gender, satisfaction with their current weight and family monthly income level (p <0.05). On the other hand, it was determined that students' social appearance anxiety did not show statistically significant differences according to age group, body mass index, type of education (physical education, art education), class level, family structure, place of residence, father and mother education status variables (p > 0.05). As a conclusion, it can be said that the social appearance anxiety of physical education and sports department students and art students is low and demographic variables do not affect social appearance anxiety in general.
