Abstract (EN)

İl İs SUMMARY The purpose of this study, it was to investigated the relationship of body image and social- demographic characteristics of university students with athletic and sedentary life style. Social- demographic data form and Multidimensional Body-self Relations Questionnaire have been applied to the students of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Physical Education and Sport Faculty. The findings were analyzed with SPSS 10.0 pacet programusing Pearson's correlation test, one way variance analyse, Tukey"s honestly significant difference-post hoc. test Linear Regression test One hundred thirty six subjects were participated in this study. From 68 subjects with sedentary life style, 25 were female and 43 male. Twenty six female and 42 male subjects, totally 68, were in the athletic group. The mean values for appearance evaluation and orentiaton of students with athletic and sedentary life style were 24,32 and 20,89; and 38,76 and 33,97, respectively (p<0,05). The mean values for fitness evaluation were 24,48 for athletes and 21,45 for students with sedentary life style (p<0,05). The mean values for body areas sdXisfacHon were 219.66 and 195,05 for students with athletic and sedentary life style, respectively (p<0,05). Statisitical significant relationship was found between athletic and sedentary life style in order of total points of inventory. Key words: Body image, self-esteem, sport
