Investigation of leadership skills in sports managers in crisis management

In this research, it is aimed to examine the leadership skills of sports managers in crisis management. The universe of the research consists of sports managers working in the central and provincial organizations and sports federations of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey. The sample of the study, on the other hand, consists of 383 participants, 66.8% male and 33.2% female. The demographic information form created by the researcher as a data collection tool in the study was developed by Bolman and Deal (1991) and the validity-reliability study in our country was carried out by Dereli (2003), the 32-item "Leadership Orientation Scale" and 45 items developed by Sayın (2008). and the Crisis Management Scale, which consists of 6 sub-dimensions (Early Warning Signal Collection, Preparation and Prevention, Moment of Crisis, Prevention of the Spread of Damage, Repair and Recovery, Learning). It was aimed to examine the relationship between the participants' crisis management and leadership orientations, which are the independent variables of the study, such as "gender, age, educational status, licensed sports status, whether they have a coaching certificate and what their role is before management". In addition, the predictability of the leadership tendencies of the managers (structural leadership, human-based leadership, political leadership, symbolic leadership) to the crisis management skill levels was examined. When the data obtained as a result of the research is examined, there is no significant difference between the leadership orientations according to the gender variable, while the scores of the female managers in the dimension of "Preventing the Spread of Damage" were found higher than the gender difference in the crisis management scale scores. In line with the findings, we can state that female sports managers are more successful than male managers in preventing the spread of damage in crisis management.
