Abstract (EN)
In the present study, we aimed to detect the homocystein (Hcy) levels in accordance with MTHFR C677T mutation which is a crucial genetic determinant of cardiovascular diseases and to search the relationship with the other cardiac risk factors, by comparing Super league and First League soccer?s (=48) with control subjects that are not sporting actively (n=48). Secondary aim is to demonstrate the relationship between GNB3 C825T mutation which is reported to be associated with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, hypertension and physical, anthropometric and biochemical parameters. Following morning blood sampling of participants, anthropometric measurements and aerobic and anaerobic threshold tests were performed. In biochemical tests, blood total cholesterol, HDL, LDL cholesterol, triglyceride, Hcy, folate, vitamin B12, hemoglobin, HsCRP, IGF-I GFBP-3, MTHFR C677T mutation and GNB3 C825T mutation analyses were studied.Statistical analyses showed that weight, body fat percentage and BMI values are found to be lower in soccer?s than in the sedentary group. Between the two groups, statistical significant differences have been detected in aerobic threshold heart beat (ATHB), aerobic threshold speed (ATS) and anaerobic threshold speed (ANTS) parameters. In soccer? s, triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol values have been found to be lower, whereas folate and IGF-I levels established to be higher than sedentary participants. According to the alleles of MTHFR C677T polymorphisms, in the participants carrying the TT allel, vitamin B12 and folate levels have been detected lower and Hcy levels higher than in the participants carrying CC and CT alleles. The statistical significant relation has been determined between MTHFR C677T and Hcy levels and ATS results. If we evaluate the biochemical differences in accordance with the alleles of GNB3 C825T polymorphism, hemoglobin values were found lower in the participants carrying TT alleles than in the participants carrying CC and CT alleles. While there was a statistically significant relation of hemoglobin and anaerobic threshold heart beat (ANTHB) with GNB3 C825T, there was no significant relation of this polymorphism with the other parameters. In conclusion, significant relation of MTHFR C677T polymorphism with the ATS and Hcy levels were observed. Positive effects of long period endurance exercises have been detected on Hcy levels and some of cardiovascular risk factors. Also, a significant relation between GNB3 C825T polymorphism and hemoglobin and ANTHS has been identified.
