Community Impact of the media dissemination of sports (Taekwondo Example)

Sports media, which function as an announcer of sports events to the public, have a wide affecting power over the mass in Turkey, alike all over the world. The aim of this research is to evaluate the role of the media on how the sportspeople who do taekwondo had a tendency for taekwondo.The research is a survey study and the general information about the research is also presented. The sampling group of the research is composed of 503 taekwondo sportsmen which are chosen by random sampling from Ankara, Istanbul, Kayseri, Izmir and Konya, which are the cities where taekwondo is popularly done. As the data collection tool, a 33-question questionnaire is used.The questionnaire is divided into three sub parts. In the first part, there are some questions about the personal qualifications of the taekwondo sportsmen; in the second part, some questions about the tendency of the subjects to taekwondo; and in the last part, some questions to determine the interest of the taekwondo sportsmen for media.Before the questionnaire is completely ready, the scales which were used in the previous researches are examined and a draft form is created. Following this, the draft form is shown to the specialists of taekwondo and discussed about the subject, then the latest form is given to the questionnaire by considering the thoughts and advices of those people.Statistical evaluation is done by using Anova, p<.05. Cross tables of the variables obtained are also used to support the analyses done. As a consequence of this research, it is found that most of the participants are high school students who expressed that sports media have a big effect on spreading sports to the public but do not have such a big influence but just a little on them to tend taekwondo.Key words: Sports, Media, Taekwondo
