Studies on improving sinter quality

This thesis provides an overview of chemical and physical properties of different iron ores as well as their influences on sintering performance. The three different types of foreign iron ores and domestic iron ores usage in sinter making. The aim of this study is to present a new approach to the characterization of complex sinter mineralogy and production standard, especially those found in effect of sinter quality parameters and productivity.A number of the commercial iron ores composition were used in an industrial sinter plant to study the effect of iron ores on the sinter quality were tested. For this purpose; preparation of sinter mix was done by considering the sintering conditions at Iskenderun Iron and Steel Works (ISDEMIR). Experiments were carried out in four stages. These are sinter applications at ISDEMIR, R & D laboratory test work was done operating agreement between China Metallurgical Equipment Corporation (MECC) and ISDEMIR, Statistic quality control of sinter samples and studies on sinter quality with mineralogical analysis. Sintering process was performed for each individual using iron ore as same on ratio on used of basicity, coke powder, flux and almost half of imported and domestic iron ore. For these tests; iron ores, coke breeze, flux material were made supplied by ISDEMİR. After the physical, chemical and mineralogical characterization of the sinter samples are investigated, they were fulfill to technological tests and the results obtained were compared with those obtained for other sinter samples. Characterization analyses were carried out by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scaning Electron Microscope (SEM-EDS). Statistical process control (IPC) techniques are measured for certain periods to variable physical, chemical and reducibility properties of sinter production. Sinter quality parameter determines for perfect sinter.
