Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to find out how the individuals are literate about the different financial concept, how they can manage their funds in a rational way, and to find out whether they have an idea of the services that the banks offer and the way they can benefit from these services. Also, this study aims to determine the relationship between financial literacy and individual financial decisions. Data of this study were collected by using questionnaire through random sampling method. The data was collected through face-to-face questions. Chi-square tests were applied to test the relationship between financial literacy and the variables previously identified in the literature as relevant. The study results shows also that the major factors that have a relationship with financial literacy in Adana are age, gender, income, level of education, individual financial decision. Saving behavior has not been found significant in explaining financial literacy. Results of this study suggest that it is important for policymakers to increase the financial literacy of households by implementing various financial education programs.
