Abstract (EN)
Forensic Photography Practices in Underwater Crime Scene Investigation Continuous increase in crime types increases the use of technology in forensic science. This enables solving the cases more accurately and reliably, and contributes to the swift provision of justice. Forensic scientists value the crime scene investigation studies to conduct criminal and crime scene analyses in forensic sciences. The application of new techniques and methods in crime scene investigation provides a distinctive perspective to the solution of forensic cases. As one of the subsidiary disciplines of the forensic sciences, forensic photography is the first step in any crime scene investigation and is regarded as the rock-solid documentation source forwarded to the judicial authorities for demarcating the location where the case has started. The underwater environment, which covers a large part of our world and contains several mysteries, may also cause the evidences to lose their chemical and physical properties over time. In awareness of these circumstances, criminals prefer the underwater environment to get rid of the evidence quickly and easily. As the first stage of the crime scene investigation, Forensic Photography sustains its mission to establish the link between the crime and the perpetrator in the underwater environment just like on the land. The harsh natural conditions of the underwater environment, which is not regularly visited by human beings, prevent the application of photography techniques and create additional problems for photographers. Scientific developments and research output in the underwater photography have proposed significant solutions to underwater challenges. This thesis work conducts a literature review of the underwater forensic photography and general underwater photography research in our country and worldwide and dwells on how scientific methods and techniques used in general underwater photography should be applied in underwater crime scene photography. The study looks forward to resolving the lack of information and resources on underwater crime scene photography and providing advice to other researchers.
