Abstract (EN)

The fear of crime is one of the popular subjects that started to be on the agenda especially after 1960. Most of the research on the fear of crime was carried out in the US and European countries. In our country, studies on the fear of crime started to increase in recent years. The fear of crime was initially considered as an individual problem in the studies conducted for fear of crime, but it was realized that the results of this problem became a growing social problem affecting the whole society. Although there is a wide variety of definitions on the concept of fear of crime, the most commonly agreed definition of fear of crime is en a reaction of emotional fear or concern that a person or a person develops against symbols associated with crime ol (Ferraro, 1995, p. 23). In short, the fear of crime is that individuals are afraid of being harmed by any crime. In this study, the conceptual definitions of fear of crime, the relationship between urbanization and fear of crime and the effects of fear of crime on society and individual behaviors are examined. Were analyzed by using statistical data analysis program. The results of the analyzes on the data obtained seem to coincide with the common belief in the fear of crime in the literature. Some people choose to limit themselves to various social activities with the fear of being a victim of crime, even if they are not subjected to any crime. Suggestions have been made to reduce the fear of crime in the community, which is known to be higher than the crime itself.
