A proposal for the transformation with user participation in the region of Süleymaniye

11 ABSTRACT The participation concept that acquires importance with the urban transformation-renovation and rehablitation-conservation projects which recently have been talked in our country, expresses a developing that users get the authority to decide and to interfere to their enviroment as a legal ground of democracy. In this thesis study, investigations, researches, analyses had been made in the region of Suleymaniye that is located in the historical peninsula and lost its original characteristic of dwelling with the forced influence of manifacturing and trading functions. Making the settlement order and the appereance analyses that are necessary for the adaptation to the original pattern of the new buildings, the harmony criterions for the new buildings are determined. The urban conservation and renewal studies that had been carried out with user participation are examined for the proposal of the transformation with user participation in the Suleymaniye region. In this research study, a transformation and rehabilitation model proposal and suggestions for Suleymaniye region are presented to obstruct the region to be left as a subsidence area and to stop the reducing in the areas of residence.
