Fiscal incentives for agriculture and livestock in the context of sustainable development: The example of Balıkesir region

The agriculture and livestock sector covers global food production and the livelihoods of millions of people around the world. However, this sector plays an important role in the emergence of many environmental problems, including deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions and water pollution. Agricultural and livestock activities based on the concept of sustainable development adopted to overcome these environmental problems can be implemented through fiscal incentives. Fiscal incentives are implemented in many ways, including subsidies, tax breaks, and investment incentives. Fiscal incentives can be used to encourage farmers to adopt sustainable practices such as pest management, good farming and organic farming practices. In addition, fiscal incentives can help reduce economic risks in transitioning to sustainable practices that will cost upfront but deliver significant long-term benefits. Although fiscal incentives have a significant impact on promoting sustainable practices in the agriculture and livestock sector, they must be implemented in a planned and correct manner to ensure that they are targeted, efficient and effective. In this study, fiscal incentives applied to the agriculture and livestock sector in the context of sustainable development in Turkey and Balıkesir province have been examined.
