Saudi Arabia's foreign policy towards Arab Spring revolutions

"Arab Spring" naming in general is to define a series of occasions and public movements which popped up against existing ruling regimes in Arab states later on started to include extended meanings in its body. Movements started in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya and widespread through neighbour regions. These movements leaded to changes on the governments and even regimes. Approaches of the governments in the affected states and neighbour states are varying due to real politics and different international relations strategies. Saudi Arabia is an important state in the Arab region. Importance of Saudi Arabia signifies due to its vast oil reserves and having holly places of Islam religion. Neighbour states and important actors of Arab region gave different reactions to the public movements. Reasons behind these different reactions are based on historical, political and cultural reasons. In general Arab Spring movements were depending on democracy request and being against existing autocratic rulers of the states but by time movements converted into different occasions due to internal and external dynamics so the results were also differed from each other. It's natural in today's world public movements would have affected from different stream lines. Arab Spring is quite fresh due to its timing and an ongoing process still exists. It has to be expressed that due to its nature academic studies couldn't be completed yet to analyse the results of the happenings. In this context we have to admit that when new results will be occurred better evaluation of the issue will be done. Saudi Arabia did not directly affect from Arab Spring movements but eventually had a negative approach against these movements. This approach was based on not due to Saudi people's request but due to security perception of the state lead to it. Movements like Arab Spring had to be considered a sum of internal and external affairs. Saudi Arabia's reaction to the concerns happened in close and far distance neighbours was also due to its threat and security perception. Saudi Arabia, close and neighbours relation is a topic to be considered in prior when analysing Saudi international politics against Arab Spring.
