Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to identify misconceptions about the Suzuki Method and to evaluate these misconceptions through the opinions of instructors. A qualitative research method was chosen, and a semi-structured interview form was used as the data collection tool. Interviews were conducted with 15 instructors working in different provinces of Turkey who have at least one year of experience with the Suzuki Method and hold international licenses. The data obtained were analyzed using content analysis and organized within the framework of themes, sub-themes, and codes. The analysis revealed that the most common misconceptions about the Suzuki Method are: that it is only suitable for young age groups; that it is based solely on auditory learning; that it is limited only to the classical music repertoire; that it is fundamentally based only on group lessons; and that any music teacher can apply it without additional training. Instructors stated that these misconceptions do not reflect the truth, and that the method can be adapted to different age groups and supported by note reading, improvisation, and different musical genres. Furthermore, it was concluded that pedagogical knowledge, special training, and a certification process are necessary for the effective application of the method. Based on these findings, it appears that a correct understanding of the Suzuki Method will contribute to eliminating misconceptions in music education and provide suitable conditions for instructors to carry out more informed practices. In conclusion, it is recommended that academic studies and teacher training programs on Suzuki education be developed in Turkey.
