Abstract (EN)

Daphne pontica and Daphne gnidioides, which belong to the Thymelaeaceae family, are commonly known as sırımbağı and sıyırcık, respectively. They grow in the north and coastal areas of our country. They have many uses in traditional medicine, from herbal treatment to ornamental plants. In this study, it was aimed to determine the antimicrobial, DNA protection, anticancer properties and to determine which programmed cell death model leads cancer cells to death and to carry out content analysis of these plant extracts obtained from various plant parts. As a result of the MIC experiment, the leaf extract of the Daphne gnidioides was effective in 31.25µg on the Gram-positive Alfa streptococcus haemolyticus bacteria. DNA protection activities were not found for these two plants. It was concluded that the body extract of Daphne gnidioides plant had the maximum effect on the HeLa (cervix) cancer line in the lowest concentration with the IC50 value of 86.16 µg. This study provides preliminary information about the biological efficacy of Daphne pontica and Daphne gnidioides plants and provides a new field for the use of these plants as antimicrobial or antioxidant agent. In this way, it will be possible to evaluate the potential of being a natural drug that only affects cancer cells, in contrast to cancer drugs with synthetic and side effects.
