Abstract (EN)

In this study, firstly, with powder metallurgy (P/M) method, different amounts boron carbide (B4C) particle reinforced (% 5, 10, 20 and 30) metal matrix composites which have different matrix chemical composition (Al5Cu, Al5Mg, Al2.5Cu2.5Mg) will be manufactured by three different sintering methods (Solid state sintering, liquid state sintering, pre-sintering / liquid state sintering). Metallografic investigations of these composite samples have been carried out and % porosity, hardness and transverse rupture strength (TRS) values of these have been determined to produce suitable armor plates for ballistic tests. After TRS tests, fracture surfaces have been investigated via scanning electron microscope (SEM.) For ballistic tests, % 5, 10 and 20 amounts of B4C particle reinforced composite armor plates which have Al5Cu, Al5Mg, Al2.5Cu2.5Mg matrix chemical compositions have been produced. Ballistics tests have been carried out for monolithic P/M composite and Al2O3-P/M composite- AA 5083, Al2O3-P/M composite-PE 1000 laminated composite samples. After ballistic tests, residual velocity of projectiles, diameters of exit holes, target deformation have been determined. Bullet holes on the composites armor have been investigated via SEM. Al2O3-P/M composite-AA 5083 laminated composite armors have provided ballistic protection for all P/M composites variation.
