Examination of self-efficacy and emotional intelligence levels of taekwondo athletes

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the self-efficacy and emotional intelligence levels of Taekwondo athletes were examined. The working group of this research consisted of athletes over the age of 18 who are licensed and engaged in active Taekwondo sports in the city of Antalya in 2020-2021. Approximate population size information will be obtained by researching the database of Antalya Youth Services and Sports Provincial Directorate Information Management System, and in calculating the sample size, the representation competencies of this study were measured with a reliability of 0.95 and a sample error of 0.05. The data will be delivered to the participants face to face and their voluntary participation in the research will be taken as a basis. The questionnaire used to collect relevant data in the study consists of three parts. In the first part, demographic information, in the second part, the General Self-Efficacy scale ,which consists of 17 entries, developed by Sherer and others(1992) and translated into Turkish by Yıldırım and İlhan(2010) in the third part emotional intelligence scale developed by Shutte and others (1998) and revised by Lane and others, adapted to Turkish culture by Adiloğulları and Görgülü (2015), was used. The obtained data were statistically analyzed with the SPSS 25.0 package program. Mann Whitney U test was used for binary variables whereas Kruskal Wallis H test was used for more than two variables. The obtained data were statistically tested with a significance level of p <0.05. It is observed that emotional Intelligence and General Self-efficacy levels of the participants are generally high in scale totals and sub-dimensions. Moreover, there is a significant and positive relationship at the 0.01 level between emotional intelligence and all its sub- dimensions, general self-efficacy and all sub-dimensions.The result of the research is in the gender variable, the evaluation of the emotions of others and the total of the scale, in the general self-efficacy scale total score and all its sub- dimensions, in the age variable, both emotional intelligence and general self-efficacy in the total score and all sub-dimensions, in the educational status variable, both emotional intelligence and General self-efficacy scale total scores and in all sub-dimensions, emotional intelligence total score in marital status variable, use of social skills and emotions, and in the persistence sub-dimension of the general self-efficacy scale, the emotional intelligence scale in sports history, except for the evaluation of others' emotions sub-dimension, both emotional intelligence and general self-efficacy scale total scores and all sub-dimensions, emotional intelligence total score in licensed history, emotion regulation, social skills and use of emotions sub-dimensions, general self-efficacy scale in the sub-dimension of not giving up, in weekly exercise frequency variable, general self-efficacy scale total score and starting sub-dimension, there is no statistically significant difference. (p <0.05)
