The place of Tahsin Yücel's novels

The fact of place in novel is an indispensable part of fiction. With the introduction of examples of novel art in our country, our narrative tradition has formed and the important elements of this tradition that will provide the complete continuity have been searched by many researchers and literature historians.Designment of place in Tahsin Yücel's works has great importance. In his novels the relation between place and characters and the signs in place are worth analyzing. In this study, we identified the place and the auxiliary signs that helped to establish the fictionalized place in eight novels of Tahsin Yücel, a philologist and idealist writer of Turkish literature. In the respectively given novels that Tahsin Yücel wrote throughout his lifetime, Mutfak Çıkmazı, Peygamberin Son Beş Günü, Bıyık Söylencesi, Vatandaş, Yalan, Kumru ile Kumru, Gökdelen, Sonuncu, we again made a study covering the space and the place by using the essays written by Tahsin Yücel for his place construct. The aim of our thesis is to find out the feature of space in Yücel's novels and the reflections of these features to the characters and is to reveal the value of place, setting, and background in fiction. To this respect, this thesis will be a study that may be identified within the extend of literature sociology researchs. Keywords: Tahsin Yücel, novel, place/space
