Roof systems in historical wooden structures:Kastamonu sample

The aim of this thesis was to investigate the roof systems of some traditional mansions, which are located in the province of Kastamonu in Turkey based on the overall appearance, design, material and structure of roofs, and examine the influence on the formation of the architectural identity of these mansions in Kastamonu. In this context, the roof systems of 26 traditional mansions were examined along with the architectural quality of historical wood structures in Kastamonu. The situation of roof systems in the buildings were investigated and a local inventory was constituted. Mostly, wooden roof systems were found with its local, regional and spatial characteristics in traditional mansions. As a result; the roof systems used in traditional mansions in Kastamonu were determined and compared with other wooden roof systems found in the literature due to technical visuality and functionality and aimed to shed light on this work.
