An analysis of Tarık Dursun Kakınç's "Hoşça Kal Küçük" in terms of core values

The primary goal of the Turkish national education system, which aims to raise individuals equipped with information, skills, and behaviors shaped by values, sees values as the foundational building blocks that complement the knowledge, skills, and behaviors imparted to individuals through the curriculum. The curricula are based on core principles derived from values that date back centuries. Today, values education is inherent in all curricula. This inherent nature is not applied through a separate program, learning area, unit, or topic. In the Turkish education system, values education is present as a fundamental and ultimate goal in all curricula. However, it is clear that the Turkish language education field carries the greatest responsibility in values education. The 'core values' specified by MEB in the TDÖP (2019) are justice, friendship, honesty, self-discipline, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism, and helpfulness. In Turkish language education, the primary material for imparting core values to students is the text. The characteristics of the texts in Turkish textbooks are outlined in the curriculum. Texts with these characteristics serve as a source for values education. In this regard, it is important and necessary to conduct research on literary works to provide scientific data to the MEB Board of Education and Discipline and to guide teachers, the implementers of the curricula, in recommending books to students. In this study, Tarık Dursun Kakınç's work "Hoşça Kal Küçük (Farewell, Little One)" was analyzed within the framework of the core values specified in TDÖP (2019). The findings identified as consistent with core values have been classified, and interpretations and suggestions have been made regarding the contexts in which these values could be useful in value education. The frequency of the core values in the work is presented in a table. The study concludes that the novel "Hoşça Kal Küçük" addresses all core values and can serve as an effective source for value education."
