Research on design decisions of the Tarlabasi renewal project between 2007-2014

Tarlabası is one of the oldest iconic centres of Istanbul, which is bounded by Dolapdere Street from north, Tarlabası Boulevard from south, Talimhane from east and Kasımpaşa from west. Tarlabası started to be built in 1535 and the architecture style in the area has pass on various interventions until today. The area hosting the ethnic cultural assets which needs to be protected has become a socioeconomic and physical collapse area as a result of the improper intervention. As a result of the decisions taken by the conservation council in the framework of Law number: 5366 in 2005, 9 block of buildings in total 21 in Tarlabası were declared as the first stage of renewal area. After this decision, the first architectural design under renovation was made in 2007 and published as an approved preliminary project. During this period, both the number and stage of registered buildings and the project planner changed. As a result, over the 2007 approved preliminary project, revision Preliminary project designed In line with the same principles, nevertheless Due to intervention decisions, different design decisions were taken from the 2007 approved preliminary project. In this thesis study, it was researched how the intervention decisions affected the 2007 preliminary project design and research the design type as a result of architectural approaches in revision preliminary project.
