Abstract (EN)

Purpose: The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the renal pathologies detected by percutaneous renal biopsy results performed in our region and the demographic data of the patients, clinical characteristics at presentation and laboratory values. Materials and Methods: This study will consist of a total of 361 patients aged 18 years and over who underwent kidney biopsy at the Department of Internal Medicine Nephrology of Süleyman Demirel University Training and Practice Hospital between January 2010 and June 2024, and a retrospective file scan of these patients was performed. Patients with known malignancy and transplant kidney biopsies will not be included in the study. Result: A total of 361 patients, 196 (54.3%) male and 165 (45.7%) female, who underwent percutaneous kidney biopsy in our Nephrology clinic were included in the study. Of the 287 patients included in the study (79.5%), they were under the age of 60. According to the kidney biopsy results, the patients were divided into 4 groups. Primary glomerular pathology was detected in 261 (72.3%) patients, followed by secondary glomerular pathology in 87 (24.1%). The most common diagnoses in all groups were FSGS in 93 (25.8%) patients, IgA nephropathy in 48 (13.3%) patients and minimal change disease in 45 (12.5%) patients. In tubulointerstitial pathologies, it was observed that the rate of proteinuria >3500 (mg/day) in 24-hour urine was lower compared to primary and secondary glomerular pathologies (p=0.013). Of the patients diagnosed with LN, 26 (86.7%) were female and only 1 (3.3%) was over 60 years of age. In addition, in all patients diagnosed with MN, 18 (100%) had a 24-hour urine proteinuria >3500 (mg/day). Conclusion: Our study is among the most comprehensive studies in terms of numbers reflecting our regional data. Most of the studies on this subject have focused on subgroups such as primary or secondary glomerulonephritis. In our study, the relationship with tubulointerstitial pathologies and vascular pathologies was additionally examined and the results we obtained are generally consistent with our country and world literature, but there are some regional and country differences. The determined clinical pictures may differ from center to center due to reasons such as ethnicity, socioeconomic factors, and biopsy indications. Therefore, it has been shown that kidney biopsy indications should be well known not only by nephrologists but also by general internal medicine and family physicians, and patients should be referred to nephrology clinics before they become symptomatic. Key words: Percutaneous kidney biopsy, Glomerulonephritis, Chronic renal failure, Nephrotic syndrome, Nephritic syndrome
