ABSTRACT MSc. Thesis DETERMINATION OF HARMFUL AND PREDATORY MITE SPECIES ON STONE FRUIT TREES IN TEKIRDAG PROVINCE, TURKEY Mehmet KESKİN TekirdağNamık Kemal University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences DepartmentofPlant Protection Supervisor:Assist.Prof. Dr.Nihal KILIÇ Thisstudywascarriedtodeterminephytophagusandpredatory mite species on stonefruittrees (plum, peach, apricot, sourcherryandsweetcherry) in Tekirdağ provinceTurkey. Samplingwasconducted May-October 2014-2015. In total 4921 sampleswerecollectedand52,44% ofplantsampleswerefound as infectedbymites.Inthesurvey 16 mite speciesweredeterminedwhich of 4 speciesbelongingtothetetranychidaefamily (TetranychusurticaeKoch, AmphitetranychusviennensisZacher, PanonychusulmiKochandByobiarubrioculusScheuten). Sevenspecieswererecordedbelongingtophytoseiidaefamily (PhytoseiuluspersimilisAthias-Henriot, PhytoseiusechinusWainstein&Arutunjan, PhytoseiusfinitimusRibaga, PhytoseiulustriporusChant&Yoshida-Shaul, EuseiusfinlandicusOudemans, TyphlodromusathiasaePorath&SwirskiandKampimodromusaberransOudemans). InadditionTyrophagusputrescentiaeSchrank, CheletomorphalepidopterorumShaw, TydeuscalifornicusBanks, TydeuskochiOudemansandZetzellia mali Ewingweredetermined in thisstudy.Tetranychusurticaewasfoundthemostcommonharmfulmitesspecieswith559 individualswhereasPanonychusulmiwasrecordedonly 7 females. AmongthepredatoryspeciesEuseiusfinlandicuswasfoundthemostimportantspecieswith518 individuals, while K. aberranswasthesecondwith345 individuals.Inthisstudypopulationdensity of mite specieswereexamined on 5 differentstonefruittrees. Plumtreeswerefoundthemostpreferredhostformiteswithtotally 995 mite individualsand it werefollowedbysweetcherrywith 513 mite specimens.
