The effect of therapeutic story use on children's learned resourcefulness levels

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the use of therapeutic stories on the learned resourcefulness levels of children. The working group of the research consists of 4th-grade students attending the official primary school in Yıldırım District of Bursa Province in the academic year of 2020-2021. Matched-pair design, which is one of the quasi-experimental designs with pretest-posttest control groups, was used in this study. Research participants were matched by a quasi-experimental pattern and placed in the experiment, control, placebo groups. In total 27 students participated in the research and in each group 9 students took place. The personal information form created by the researcher and the Self- Scale for Children (Güloğlu, 2006) were used as data collection tools in the study. The independent variable of the study is the learned resourcefulness psychoeducation program, and the dependent variable is the learned resourcefulness level of the participants. Nonparametric tests were used for quantitative data analysis in the study. With the help of the Kruskal Wallis test, participants were tested whether there is a significant difference between the experiment, control, and placebo groups or not. Following the application of the learned resourcefulness psychoeducation program to the experimental group, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used for the significance of the difference between pre-test and post-test scores. There was no significant difference between the post-test scores of the experimental and control placebo groups. After the post-test, the focus group interview technique was used with the experimental group members. The qualitative findings of the study indicate that the psychoeducation program applied to the experimental group increased the learned resourcefulness level of the participants.
