Journey and women in Tezer Özlü's Yaşamın Ucuna Yolculuk and Virginia Woolf's Orlando

In this thesis, the works of Tezer Özlü and Virginia Woolf, two female writers of the 20th century in Turkish and English literature, created under the influence of modernism, the crises left in them by the movement and the periods they lived in, and their inner journeys are discussed and compared within the framework of feminist theory. The works Yaşamın Ucuna Yolculuk and Orlando , which are structurally and conceptually similar to each other, will be examined with their common and different aspects, through the themes of journey and women. In the works of the authors, inspired by their own lives and identities, and including their own journeys, the influence of the society and culture they grew up in and experienced in their struggle against all patriarchal social orders and masculine discourses can be seen. These characters, who were alienated from themselves and the environment in the modern world due to the psychological distress they experienced, their feelings of not being understood, started their adventures by writing their own quest journeys. The main purpose of the study is to reveal how female writers and characters are similar on an intercultural basis, despite different geographies and societies. These writers combined self-narratives with fiction by using their own life stories, and revealing the relationship between memory and social memory, and the effect of time and space on concrete moments. Looking at novels as concrete and fantastic examples of integrative concepts (androgynous/hermaphrodite) resulting from the coexistence of male and female genders, Voyager / flaneuse women's desire for discovery, Otherization through body and identity issues, The timeless and universal reflections of the themes of madness on common femininity are among the topics focused on throughout the literary works.
