Adolescents with type 1 diabetes self-esteem and depressive symptom levels

This research, conducted in a descriptive and cross-sectional design, aimed to determine the self-esteem and depressive symptom levels of type 1- diabetes - adolescents. The population of the research consisted of patients followed up in the child endocrinology outpatient clinics of three training and research hospitals located on the Anatolian side of Istanbul between September 2023 and November 2023. The sample of the research included 202 13-18 aged adolescents who met the inclusion criteria and agreed to participate in the study. Data were collected using the "Personal Information Form," "Coopersmith Self-Esteem Scale (CSES)," and "Adolescent Rapid Depressive Symptom Inventory (ARDSI-E17-OV)." The data were analyzed by using SPSS for Windows 26.0 package program; and tested by Cronbach's α Coefficient, t-test, Mann-Whitney U, and Correlation Analysis. The results of this research revealed that the self-esteem levels of adolescents with type 1 diabetes were moderate (26.06±7.9), and their depressive symptom levels were mild (10.73±3.5).
